Colt McCoy fishing raised money for Children’s Hospital

They didn’t scare the fish, but it was a great day of fishing for Rockdale teenager Dustin Strelsky when he went fishing with NFL quarterback Colt McCoy on Lake Austin on Wednesday, May 25.

Colt, the former University of Texas football standout and now Cleveland Browns quarterback, was making good on a generous fundraising gift to the Children’s Hospital at Scott & White campaign; a celebrity auction last fall offered the special fishing outing with Colt, and more than $25,000 was bid by an anonymous donor.

Guide and host for the trip was fishing professional Paul Stokes. Fish were caught – at least one by Dustin. Anything else will be part of good “fish story.”

Dustin has been a patient at the existing Children’s Hospital at Scott & White. He was treated for an injury from a car accident that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. Earlier this year Dustin was named as the Texas Champion for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Colt teamed up with Scott & White in 2010 to help raise $50 million for the new stand-alone regional children’s hospital.

The new Children’s Hospital at Scott & White is currently being built, and when complete in October it will be the only children’s hospital between Dallas and Austin.
