Some Lesser-Known Cosmetic Enhancements—For Your Face
When you look in the mirror is there something about your appearance that’s constantly nagging at you? If you’ve tolerated something for years, it may be time to consider a cosmetic enhancement.
Some people may not know that there are safe, relatively simple ways to improve your look. Scott & White plastic surgeon Charles N. Verheyden, MD, PhD, FACS is the Director of the Division of Plastic Surgery and provides patients with a range of options for helping them feel content and confident.
As part of a two part series, Dr. Verheyden will explain three enhancements for your face you may not know about.
Three Enhancements for Your Face
Those fine lines, droopy eyes or crow’s feet don’t have to stay forever. As you age, you will notice your skin just isn’t how it used to be. Over-the-counter products can be helpful, but there are also cosmetic options you may not know about.
“A browlift can really open up the face and many people don’t think about that as an option,” says Dr. Verheyden. It can remove excess skin and muscle from the brow and elevate those drooping eyebrows. It can help you look more rested as it improves brow lines and furrows.
- Laser Resurfacing
Laser procedures include removing spider veins, age spots, tattoos, hair or simply rejuvenating the skin. Laser treatments are safe and effective to rid yourself of unwanted blemishes or wrinkles that have been bothersome to you.
“Laser procedures can be done in or out of the operating room, depending on the specific procedure,” says Dr. Verheyden.
- Dermal Fillers
Fillers provide many options for your face. It’s a simple way to enhance your lips, lines around your eyes, or deep folds in your face. There are many filler options out there, and a quick consultation with a provider can help you get the look you want.
“Fillers don’t require any operations and can be done in the office,” says Dr. Verheyden.
Benefits of Cosmetic Enhancements
“When patients experience success after facial cosmetic surgery, it’s a thrill for me to think I have helped them get there,” says Dr. Verheyden.
He recalls helping a lady who had a rhinoplasty (nose) and a chin enhancement.
“When she came back to see me, she said, ‘Sometimes I look in the mirror and think I’m pretty.’ That was a new thought for her and I can sleep well at night knowing I contributed to that,” says Dr. Verheyden.
If you’re debating whether or not to take the plunge for cosmetic enhancements, consider these three benefits:
- Emotionally-You can usually see this when people have more confidence and pride in their appearance. Dr. Verheyden says, “They feel better about themselves.”
- Socially-With some enhancements you may feel more confident in your relationships, interactions with others or in the workplace.
- Physically-With some eyelid procedures, Dr. Verheyden says vision can be improved.
