On World Prematurity Day, a photo gallery of former Baylor Dallas neonatal patients

Today is World Prematurity Day, a day in which groups around the world work to raise awareness about premature birth and ways to prevent it.

We recognize this important day with a photo gallery from a very special annual event held here in Dallas a few weeks ago. Shelley Wood, BS, RNC-NIC, explains:

Every two years, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas holds a “Celebration of Life” reunion for our patients, past and present.

The event is typically set up at the Tom Landry Fitness Center park to allow for a grand celebration. Parents are invited to bring their children to reconnect with staff, mingle with other families and to celebrate their children. The festivities include games, prizes, food and photos.

This event is a great way to show the hospital staff that there is life outside the NICU. It gives the staff renewed hope and encouragement that every day that we spend caring for the teeniest of patients, our efforts provide a great reward.

Shelley Wood was the 2014 Reunion Committee Chair.

UPDATE: ABC News featured the reunion in an online story. Read it here.

  1. I can’t believe how time flies. My daughter Jayla Davila was born at 29 weeks there at Baylor Dallas. And now that I look back at those days it brings tears of joy because it was hard to see my baby there for two months after birth. I give thanks to all the nurses who took care of her at that time. That were the most sweet and loving nurse every. Thanks for all you did. I would like to know when is the next picnic. Jayla would so enjoy coming out there.
